Zwolle--:--Hachinohe--:--
Entrepreneur, writer and certified CQ facilitator. I stand between Japan and the world and carry something across, in both directions.
静かなまま、遠くへQuietly, and far — Zwolle, the Netherlands
What I speak and write about

Harmony, respect for the other, respect for nature, and care in every small thing. These are not customs to memorise but a way of being. I speak and write about the spirit behind Japanese life — from someone who lives it, and lives outside Japan.
日本の精神性

In Japan, words are believed to carry a spirit of their own. I talk and write about the Japanese language not as grammar alone, but as a way of thinking — what the language reveals about how Japanese people see the world, and each other.
日本語と言葉のちから

Most of what the world sees of Japan is Tokyo. I work with women in Aomori, in the far north, and I carry that Japan — slower, quieter, deeply rooted — to people who would otherwise never meet it.
日本の地方のくらし

Certified CQ facilitator. I run a Japanese company from the Netherlands, and work every day across the gap between cultures. I help teams and individuals meet difference — Japanese or otherwise — with understanding rather than assumption.

Community
A free, friendly community for everyone in and around Zwolle who loves Japan: picnics in the park, cooking get-togethers, a yukata walk through the old town. Dutch, Japanese, and everyone in between.
About
Mika Tanaka was born in Hachinohe, Aomori, in the far north of Japan's main island, and studied at Waseda University's School of International Liberal Studies, with a year at Lafayette College in the United States. After working in a company and then independently as an English teacher, she started an online administrative-support business from her kitchen table in Hachinohe in 2017, while raising two daughters.
That business became Remottosan, incorporated in 2023 with her as CEO. Its model is simple and unusual: professional back-office support for companies, delivered by women in rural Japan who could not otherwise work — because of children, care, or simply where they live. In 2022 the Cabinet Office of Japan recognised this work with a special Women's Challenge Award. She has since sat on Aomori Prefecture's planning council and led training and regional-development programmes for local government.
In 2024 she moved with her family to Zwolle. She still runs the Japanese company from here; alongside it she teaches Japanese, leads the Dutch-Japan Friends Zwolle community, and is a certified Cultural Intelligence (CQ) facilitator. She writes a regular column for a newspaper in northern Japan.
What runs through all of it is a conviction that people and places hold more possibility than the systems around them allow — and a habit of looking at Japan and Europe as someone who lives in both.
